Combined U12-U13 team reach Futsal Cup Final

On Tuesday, a combined U12-U13 girls team played a Futsal tournament versus a number of schools within Merseyside at Archbishop Beck Tennis Centre.

The team were put in a group versus hosts Archbishop Beck and Weatherhead High School. The first match versus the hosts was a keenly fought affair with both teams scoring early on, but as Liverpool College got into their stride, they quickly went in front by three goals, and eventually ended up winning 5-4. The second match would determine who topped the group after Weatherhead convincingly beat the hosts. The winner of this match was never in doubt as players of the tournament Anna R (Y8 Butler's) and Isabella H (Y7 School) tore Weatherhead apart with their power and pace. The final score: Liverpool College 5 Weatherhead High School 2.

As the College topped the group they faced All Saints Kirkby in the quarter final. As each player from the squad played their part in pushing the opposition into making mistakes and there was only one winner, despite All Saints scoring a penalty with the final kick of the game. The final score was Liverpool College 4 All Saints Kirkby 2. Onto the semi-final and Liverpool College faced St John Bosco a team they had lost 5-1 earlier on in the term. Liverpool College certainly got their revenge in this match as again Anna R (Y8 Butler’s) and Isabella H (Y7 School) terrorised the opposition into numerous mistakes and the College emerged 4-0 winners.

Liverpool College faced Upton School in the final and this match provided much entertainment despite no goals with the College striking the post near the end. The match went into penalties and still no-one could separate two incredibly talented teams until finally Liverpool College missed in the sudden death shoot out.

What a performance in the tournament from Liverpool College which has provided much encouragement for Girls Football for the remainder of the academic year.
