Day Boarding

The College has a proud history of boarding, and with our recently refurbished boarding house in Beechlands we are keen to share our expertise with the wider College community.

Day Boarding is an exciting new initiative which seeks to bring the ‘day’ school and ‘boarding’ school elements of Liverpool College together in a programme.

Pupils in Years 7 to 10 are invited to join our ambitious after-school programme which runs until 6.30pm Monday to Thursday and includes a substantial after school snack, supervised homework time (‘prep’), a variety of extra activities both on and off site and dinner eaten with the boarders at the end of the evening.

About our Boarding Programme

Liverpool College is a traditional British school that was established in 1840. The school has more than 180 years of experience educating young people and inspiring them to pursue their dreams.

Liverpool College is a state boarding school that offers a challenging and rewarding free education for students from Chapters (Years) 7 to 13. Our affordable boarding house, Beechlands, is a beautiful Victorian property that has been completely refurbished and modernized. The boarding house is located on the school’s secure and leafy campus. It provides comfortable accommodation for up to 20 boarders, as well as a variety of communal spaces where students can relax, study, and socialize.

State boarding schools are significantly more affordable than independent boarding schools. The fraction of the cost of an independent boarding school. Here at Liverpool College we offer a high-quality education that is comparable to that of independent boarding schools. Our boarders have launched themselves from the College into successful matriculation at top universities and, degree apprenticeships including Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Imperial Goldsmiths, Royal Holoway, Kings, Queen Mary, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, and Liverpool.

Our boarding programme is designed to provide students with the support and opportunities they need to succeed academically, personally, and socially. We have a dedicated team of boarding staff who are committed to providing our boarders with a safe and supportive home away from home.

‘She is in extremely good hands. All the boarding staff, as well as the academic faculty, take care of my daughter very well. It’s peace of mind. I would recommend this school to all my friends and families.’ (Parent 2023)

Boarding at Liverpool College offers a number of benefits, including:

  • A close-knit community where students can build strong relationships with their peers and staff
  • A wide range of extracurricular activities to choose from.
  • Access to a diverse range of academic and social opportunities
  • The chance to live and learn in a vibrant and cosmopolitan city

‘Children’s life opportunities are improved because of their boarding experiences.’ (Ofsted, 2023)

Liverpool is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city with a lot to offer boarders. They can explore the city’s museums, galleries, and theatres, or take part in its sporting events and festivals. Close to Liverpool University halls of residence and only a short bus ride into the city centre. We are very close to the M6 /M57. Liverpool airport is less than a 15-minute drive.

Weekly Boarding/Full Boarders

Weekly boarders board from Sunday evening or Monday morning to Friday afternoon during term time.

Full boarders are able to board with us during the week as well as the weekends of term time. During the weekend they are able to participate in the activities organized for them.
