The Psychology of Politics – Chapter 11 Workshop

Chapter 11 Wilton Scholars were challenged to consider whether the characteristics that make a good leader were the same characteristics required to make a good politician. Pupils explored the psychology of politics and were invited to ponder a series of philosophical questions about popularity, pressures and principles. Our thanks to the Wilton Trust for arranging this thought provoking event.

GCSE Results 2022

Liverpool College pupils and their parents and teachers are celebrating extraordinarily good GCSE results. Despite the uncertainties and disruptions of the last few years, the cohort performed much better than expected or predicted.
There were many extraordinary performances with 12 pupils scoring more than 5 9s on their GCSEs. and Ruby, Jude, Ruth and Yassin scoring 9 9 grades or more. A majority of the year group will continue at the College and we look forward to welcoming them and successful external applicants next week.

Results Day Celebrations
The class of 2022 and their teachers are celebrating some excellent end of year 13 exam results. Scarlett received the highest set of grades in the year group with 4 grades at A* closely followed by Nicolaas and Eric who were awarded 3 grades at A* and one grade A. Two students who joined us from Hong Kong part way through year 12 both achieved 3 grades at A* - congratulations to Nelson and Hau Lok. Our pair of twins Lucy and Kate are celebrating identical results of 2 A* and an A. There were many more fantastic performances - the students showing the most progress since GCSE were Safea, Lucy, Niamh, James S, Charlotte P and Lucia. Very well done to Charlotte B who achieved two grades at Distinction * in her BTEC subjects and to the many students like Shaan, Anam, Renetta, Anna, George and so many more who joined us in year 12 and who have enhanced our Sixth Form. All of our 5 Oxbridge candidates achieved the grades required and we wish all of our students a successful time in the future and thank them for their contribution to Liverpool College.
If you are reading this and would like to apply to start Sixth Form with us in September 2022 then please email Mrs Loveridge.

Careers Fair

Liverpool College pupils got an important glimpse into the world of work this week when they participated in a careers and providers fair. Open to all pupils from Y9, Y10 and Y12, volunteers from a wide range of professions gave the pupils an opportunity to learn about their chosen field and the qualifications and skills required to flourish in that sector. The fair included educational providers, businesses and individual professionals. In total, 38 exhibitors were in attendance at the event. This included an author, doctor, engineer, civil servant, MP, marketing manager, solicitor, case worker, Judge, optometrist, software designer, cloud infrastructure manager, banker, analyst and the assistant director of child services. Also represented at the event was the army, police, civil service, NHS, social welfare and the institute of mechanical engineers. We also were delighted to welcome to the event the National Apprenticeship Service, Edge Hill, LIPA, Myerscough College, Hope Academy, St Helens College, LMA Institute for media, music and performing arts, The Studio, Liverpool University and the University of Central Lancashire. It was delightful to see the pupils and students so interested and engaged throughout the event, asking insightful questions and expressing and developing their aspirations for the future. Our thanks to Mrs Doran and Mrs Drew for organising the event.

Sensational Science Workshop

Using ingredients only found in the average household, Year 7 Wilton Scholars were treated to a superb Science exploration workshop this week to stretch and develop their understanding of displacement, non-Newtonian fluids, air pressure and chemical reactions. Pupils predicted outcomes and theorised unusual results. They then needed to apply these concepts to alternative experiments that required them to stretch and challenge their thinking.
