Women in STEM
Breaking down stereotypes, female students were encouraged to think about careers in STEM this week. A series of talks and webinars were arranged which showcased young women with established careers in the tech industry. Webinars included those arranged by Founders4Schools, Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Consultancy Services,a global leader in IT services, consulting & business solutions.

Online Safety
Support for parents and carers to keep children safe online
Please access the resources below to help keep children safe from different risks online. You can also access information about where to go to get support and advice.
It is important to have regular conversations about staying safe online and to encourage children to speak to you if they come across something worrying online. Talk to your child about the importance of creating a safe online environment, including keeping any log-in details and passwords safe.
These resources will support you to talk to your child about a range of online safety issues, set up home filtering in a child-friendly way and set up age-appropriate parental controls on digital devices:
- Support for Parents & Carers to Keep Children Safe Online - UK Government guidance with resources to help keep children safe from different risks online and where to go to get support and advice.
- The UK Safer Internet Centre provides a wide variety of guides and resources to help young people stay safe online. You can also report any harmful content found online through the UK Safer Internet Centre
- NSPCC Online Safety - https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/
- CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command) - https://www.ceop.police.uk/safety-centre/
- Thinkuknow- by the National Crime Agency - Child Exploitation and Online Protection command (NCA-CEOP) - resources for parents and carers and children of all ages to help keep children safe online
- Internet matters - for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online. Internet Matters has step-by-step guides on how to set up parental controls so that you can control what content your child can access online
- Childnet has developed guidance for parents and carers to begin a conversation about online safety, as well as guidance on keeping under-fives safe online
- Parent Info is a collaboration between Parent Zone and NCA-CEOP - support and guidance for parents and carers related to the digital world from leading experts and organisations
- Inclusive Digital Safety Hub and Online Safety Hub, created by South West Grid for Learning in partnership with Internet Matters - support and tailored advice for young people with additional learning needs and their parents or carers
- Parents’ Guide to Age Ratings explains how the British Board of Film Classification rates content, and gives parents advice on choosing online content well
- London Grid for Learning - for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online

Why did I choose Liverpool College Sixth Form?
Liverpool College is the place where I can fit in with everyone and I’m happy with the subjects I’ve chosen. I feel like I’ve grown a lot more academically than I would have done in my other school. In year 12 I’ve enjoyed the care from the members of staff and my classmates around me. Jamie

The levels of teaching are difficult to find elsewhere, each member of staff is entirely dedicated to their work and to the education of each of their pupils. Every pupil gets the pleasure of experiencing amazing teaching and a personal side to every teacher. Students themselves are clearly interested from this sort of teaching and there is never a lack of enthusiasm! The opportunities I have been given by the school such as through the CCF and continuous school trips develop other aspects of my character that can be put back into learning in the classroom. Eric

I stayed for Sixth Form because I knew the teachers here would often be willing to go out of their way if it meant a greater chance of me or my classmates succeeding. Also, they're all so passionate about their subjects that it makes you genuinely excited to learn about their field. In year 12 I've enjoyed that you're trusted to manage your own time effectively and to become a lot more independent. Teachers here talk with you instead of talking at you and through that I've started to feel much more confident in my subjects as I can broaden my knowledge beyond the syllabus, whether through talking to my teachers or by spending free periods exploring topics I find particularly worthwhile.
