Chapter 8 Football team enjoy a day at the Oratory School, Oxfordshire

Last Friday, a group of Chapter 8 pupils travelled on an early morning bus enroute to the Oratory School, Oxfordshire. This was an invitation to the school, after the Oratory had previously visited Liverpool in January. The boys were treated to a lesson of Real Tennis with five times world champion Claire Fahey. This was a new sport to the boys, and they really took to it with excitement every time a point was won. Following the tennis, the boys enjoyed a football match on the grounds of the Prep School Boarding Grounds. Finally, fish and chips were served up for 16 very hungry pupils. An excellent day and a wonderful link which we hope to build upon.

Day Boarding Visit

Another lovely week in Day Boarding this week. This week the day boarders visited St Chad's Church in Kirby to see 'Gaia'. Gaia is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram that aims to demonstrate the fragility of the planet. Measuring 6 metres in diameter it is a replica of the ‘earth’ created from detailed NASA imagery of the earth’s surface. The artwork provides a unique opportunity to view our planet, floating in three dimensions and revolving slowly. It also fits in nicely with our Science and Art club.

Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 Captains lead by example in an afternoon of football versus St Hilda's

On Wednesday, both the Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 football teams were in action versus nearby St Hilda's. A dry, but chilly afternoon ensured the matches took place on a good playing surface. On pitch 3 goals were flying in each end as St Hilda's U12s took a 2-1 lead. On pitch 1, it was a much tighter affair as shots on target were kept to a minimum and it was just before half time that the deadlock was finally broke with a strike from College captain Erdis R. The pattern of play stayed pretty much the same in the U13s match and the match ended 1-0. The U12s were still 2-1 down late in the game when captain Isaac O'B stepped up to drill the ball home from a set piece to ensure an equal share of the spoils - 2-2.

The eagerly anticipated Chapter 8 rugby match ends in another win for the College

There was a real buzz around the astro turf and classrooms on Tuesday morning as pockets of boys were talking about the afternoon's Chapter 8 rugby match versus Audenshaw. The boys knew they were a good side and had to be at their best to keep their unbeaten run intact. Audenshaw arrived at 1.30pm on the dot and you could hear from the pavilion their captain shouting encouragement to their boys. The College did their usual routine and went through their warm up with coach Mr Muscatelli. Despite, a few rusty moments due to not playing since last term, it was the home teams' sheer power, effort and determination that won the day. The final score was 5 tries to 2 for the College and the search goes on for challenging opposition.

A Saturday morning of football versus the Kings School Chester

It's 8.00am on a Saturday morning and over 50 pupils are waiting in blazers and ties to board a coach to an away football fixture. This is a familiar picture and last weekend four boys football teams made the trip to the Kings School Chester to participate in fixtures. Whilst this was happening a similar picture was taking place at the College as three boys football teams dressed in blazer and tie were hurriedly walking to the pavilion ready to put on their boots and participate in a match. It's a fantastic scene which symbolises the amount of sporting opportunities available at the school. Last week it was the College that were successful in four of the seven matches with two others ending in a draw. This week will be a similar scene as the College play another block of fixtures versus Ellesmere College and the girls travel to Rydal to play several netball fixtures.
