A Superb Win for the Year 7 Football Team

Last Thursday, the girls football team, fresh from a two day trial, played their first match in front of a large crowd of Liverpool College parents and friends versus St Barlow's.

The College started nervously and found themselves two goals down after ten minutes. Just before half time, the College scored two goals in a minute to draw level thanks to Giselle R and Anna R. The second half saw a confident Liverpool College pull ahead through an own goal before Anna R scored a superb goal to ensure the Year 7 team won their first ever match.

Year 11 Theatre Trip

Year 11 GCSE Drama pupils enjoyed a visit to The Everyman Theatre on Thursday afternoon to watch a performance of ‘The Lovely Bones’ based upon the novel by Alice Sebold. This captivating and traumatic story received a passionate response from Year 11 who were pleased to leave the theatre clutching a set of theatre evaluation notes. A reflection on live theatre performance will certainly prepare for them for the written examination in May and no doubt will leave a longer lasting impression on them.

Mrs Hall and Mrs Hayes were delighted to accompany the pupils who all demonstrated the Lerpoolian Standard with their immaculate uniform, conduct and attitude.

Careers Masterclass - TED talk by Medical Mavericks

The MV Hall was packed for the Careers Masterclass by Medical Mavericks during today’s NSI period. Medical Mavericks are described as one of the UK’s No 1 providers of Careers, STEM and Sports Science enrichment experience for schools.

This latest masterclass in our Careers and STEM programme was specifically designed for pupils considering a career in medicine, biomedical science, healthcare science, medical engineering, medical physics, physiology, dentistry or sports science.

Over 160 pupils from Year 7, 9-13 had requested to attend the talk and were completely engrossed during the session. Short video clips of various physiological tests that the consultant presenter had recorded, caused quite a stir as the pupils watched a camera being inserted into his lung and a sample of lung tissues taken. The interactive nature of the presentation resulted in two of our pupils being tested for growth; they were very pleased to be told they would in fact grow taller, even though one pupil only had another year of growth left! At the end of the talk one Sixth Former commented that he thought the talk was ‘brilliant’.

At the same time, our Year 8 pupils were taking part in an E-Safety talk with Megan Brickland, Digital Community Support Officer from Merseyside Police.

Design for the Future

Year 10 Art and Design pupils have been creating imaginative designs for the Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

The hospital is running a Back to the Future Generations art competition across Merseyside and have asked entrants to design their vision for the future and what they think the hospital will look like in another 25 years in 2043.

Everyone who enters the competition has been invited to attend the Liverpool Women’s on the day of their Annual Members Meeting in October when the winners and runners up will be announced. Good luck to our pupils!

Year 8 and 9 Football Success

On Tuesday 25 September, both the Year 8 and Year 9 girls football teams made their first start to the academic year versus North Liverpool Academy.

Both matches were played at a high tempo with the College struggling to adapt to the strong but fair tackling of the home side. It was Liverpool College Year 8s who took the lead with a superb strike from Captain Holly B (Howard’s) and at the same time on pitch two, the Year 9 team went a goal down to the hosts. The second half saw goal chances for both teams and it was the College who were successful on both pitches, firstly Captain Libby H (Howson’s) equalised for the Year 9 team and then Leona SP (School) finished off a superb move for Liverpool College to grab an all important goal in the Year 8 match.

Final Scores:

North Liverpool Academy Y8 0 - Liverpool College Y8 2
North Liverpool Academy Y9 1 - Liverpool College Y9 1

Kayaking on a Sunday morning

Kayaking on Sunday morning in 20 mile an hour winds was not for the faint hearted! Fifteen of our boarders decided to take the plunge, literally, this weekend, under expert instruction from the staff at the Liverpool Water Sports Centre.

Luckily, they all brought a change of clothes and a towel so that at the end of their session when they dived into the Mersey for a bit of fun, they didn’t come back to us sopping wet!
